The Trent analysis is pretty simple. Trent is not the problem. Yes, Trent has not defended. But he never really defended much the last 4-5 years that he’s been the best RB. Whoever doesn’t know this, hasn’t watched our games.
No RB can defend tight and still get in as many crosses as he does, humanly impossible. Nor did I see anyone complain about the pouring rain of assists. He’s still the best modren fullback. The problem is that midfield he relies on for defensive cover and press is not doing its job, that marriage has broken down. A midfield that lacks intensity, leaves Trent exposed too often. And then the problem becomes a storm when the right center back makes mistakes from basic situations like Gomez did.Once Thiago and Matip start, life will get better for Trent. And soon when Konate is back, it will be perfect, like nothing happened. Pretty simple.
But a simple, common sense analysis won’t make breaking headlines so there’s a mad race to throw Trent under the bus from those who need to stay relevant and sell internet clicks. Ignore the noise and back the lad. 🚩
