Mikel Arteta’s wife Lorena Bernal was also there in training, watching high up on the benches in the stand. Creating a family unit has been at the heart of what Arteta has tried to do as manager and some of the players also had their families on tour with them. The club dog, Win, was sadly left with its full-time carer back in London.
Spirits were high and that was helped by the fun warm-ups they tended to do. After doing some mobilisation and sharp sprints, a coach’s name was called out who the players then had to catch before flicking their ear, one by one. [The Athletic]
